The Amazing World of Amelia

Today we're going on a bike tour around the city!! We had to catch a metro train to meet up with our bike tour guide. The tour was run by a company called Fat Tire Tours. The tour guide's name was Johnny. It nearly cost 200 dollars. Luckily I didn't have to bike on my own as Daddy and I got to go on a tandem bike and nobody else did. Finn had his own bike.  We learned heaps from our tour guide. Such as, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette tried to escape Paris but they had a terrible escape planned, failed and got caught. Also when they were planning the Eiffel Tower some people had ideas that a slide could be coming down from the top or a guillotine!! At some point I flipped upside down & out of the tandem bike. We had to leave early to catch a train to Postonja. We were going to see the famous caves and a very old castle that was built into the side of a cliff. We ran very fast to catch our train and just made it in time. My body was so boiling that I felt like I was steaming. While getting our tickets I saw a big cuddly dragon and I wanted to go and give him a high-five and get a photo taken with it. We joined the long queue and entered the cave at 12.30. When I found out we would be travelling through the cave on a train I was very excited! The train carriages had a bar that came down over your lap which made it seem a bit like a rollercoaster. It just didn’t go nearly as fast! On our way in I saw stalactites hanging from the roof of the cave, and stalagmites sticking up from the floor, and sometimes they join together to form pillars. Today I woke up on a train instead of a bed and arrived in Ljubljana which is the capital city of Slovenia. I found sleeping on the train comfortable and not noisy. We had to get our bags all ready for when the train stopped. We stepped out into Ljubljana. There were a lot of houses and not big apartments. It didn’t seem too busy. We noticed that the sky was grey and it was a bit colder here. The train station was quite big. The man who was the taxi driver was not there so we had to problem solve and use our initiative and find a way to our house. We walked with all of our bags up a hill. We didn’t realise we’d have to walk up a hill. On the way up there Finn found a huge, gigantic black beetle. It was hard work walking up the steep hill. When we arrived at our house the lady who owned it said “why did you go up that way? That’s the path we call the North Slope”. Oh well, it was good exercise. Our house is quite old, from the 1600s. Today we’re going on a train to Thessaloniki. It’s a city at the top of Greece. For breakfast Daddy made Finn and I an omelette. And accidentally Dad dropped a glass and it broke. Quickly we walked with all our luggage to the train station. It’s sunny and hot again. I’m getting a bit tired of hot, hot, hotness. The train journey is 4 hours long. Suddenly the train arrived at platform 8. We hopped onto carriage number 6. I’m very excited because in 2 more days we’re going on an overnight train and we’re going to sleep on it. We bought some beds on it. Looking out of the train window I was surprised because I saw lots of proper houses! Normally we have been seeing apartment buildings and hotel buildings. Here are some that I saw. They looked quite scrufffy and run down.

Wow today we’re going on a big ferry back to Athens. It’s going to be a Blue Star Ferry again. It’s so big!  It was busy on the ferry so we were worried we weren’t going to get any seats but Dad and Finn went on a hunt for some. Dad came back and said “come on”. He’d found some seats but we had to sit by some other people though. I had a very comfortable seat. It took us five hours to get to Athens. I felt a bit sickie on the ferry. Daddy had a little nap on the floor and I gave him my pink unicorn eyemask, my teddy bears and my silver cardigan as his blanket. It was very funny. I found it hilarious! People were staring at him. Finally we got to ancient Athens. We got a taxi to drive us to our apartment. I think Athens is old and a bit gross because there is graffiti everywhere. We spent six night on Naxos. It’s an island next to an island called Paros. It’s in Greece, at the bottom, towards Turkey. We stayed at a place called Agyra Studios in a village called Agios Prokopios .  It was a small place but very nice. The people who worked there was Nikos and Sofia. Nikos has a dog called Caramelo, but you roll the letter r when you say her name. She’s a white soft little dog and looks a bit like Maisie, my dog. Suprisingly they had a pool that had rafts there. Mum and Dad had secretly told us there wasn’t going to be a pool. It was a very nice surprise that there was a pool there. The beach is right next to it.
