Fireworks in Barcelona! - 23 June

We woke and went to the coffee shop just around the corner from our apartment. It was another warm and sunny day. Mum and Dad both got a coffee and a croissant dipped in chocolate. Finn and I had half of one each. It was yummy even though it tasted different to the ones we get in New Zealand.

Daddy had a go making someone in my fashion book by using the stickers. He named her Chockayla because he smudged some chocolate on my book by mistake. Then I added a little sister to the page and called her Choco.

Dad walked inside the coffee shop to pay. All of it together cost 4 euros. Which is about $7.

We strolled back home with a half filled tummy. Mummy and Daddy planned where we going next after Barcelona / Badalona. I played in my room while they were doing that. Finn and I made the sandwiches and it had tuna, mayo and corn mixed in it.

Soon we went to the Metro and went to see two Gaudi buildings from the outside. The first one was called Casa Battlo.

The second one was called Casa Mila. They were very very artistic and unique. Different to all the buildings beside them. After we looked at them we sat down on a bench and ate our sammies. Finn and I were very proud of our sandwiches. They were yummy.

Next we went on the metro to see a Gaudi park. It was called Park Guell. We had to walk up a lot of stairs and a steep hill to get there. It was only nine minutes to walk from the metro station. When we got up Dad was like “oh man” because the toilets were blocked off. We started to walk around the windy path. It was getting later and later so we didn’t have enough time to go and pay to see the lizard.

We were going to start heading over back to the metro station. The metro is going to take us to L'Hospitalet de Llobregat to see my Mum and Dad’s friend Emilie. The live at the very tippity top of the apartment block. They have no garden but it is very big inside. They have two massive balconies.

She has a little boy called Miquel which in New Zealand I guess is kind of the same as Michael. When I saw him he was being a bit silly because he was only four and he was cute. I couldn’t really understand him because he spoke French. Daddy could talk to him a little bit because he used to live in France.

Miquel had a lot of toys to play with.

Later we had tea. It was a traditional meal. The ham was way better than the ham that we get in New Zealand. It tasted so delish. It was small ripped up bits of ham. The colour was closer to red than pink. We also ate salad (ensalada), tortilla, and bread with tomato spread on it. It’s a Spanish thing. Ripe tomatoes spread onto baguette. We also had chorizo, Afterwards we had some juicy watermelon to start our dessert off. Then we had the traditional cake eaten on this day. By the way this day is called Sant Joan (the festival of Saint John) and everyone lights fireworks. It’s a bit like Guy Fawkes.

We lit some fireworks. First we did bombers and we threw them onto the balcony floor. They went bang. Then we did some sparklers. After Emilie’s husband Jordi lit a firework. It was so bright, big and sparkly. Then we did more sparklers. But when we did the last firework it wouldn’t work. The scene from the balcony was amazing. We could see all the fireworks going off. They were pretty loud. Louder than we get here in New Zealand.

Jordi had a very expensive Virtual Reality set. I got to have a go with it. It was a bit big around my eyes. On the deep sea game it was a bit scary because there was a big whale that went shooting past me and it’s tale nearly whacked me in the face. But it wasn’t real but it seemed very real. Finn was so excited by the Virtual Reality.

Sadly it was getting to late for me to stay awake so we had to go. By the time we got back to our apartment it was 1am!! The latest I’ve ever stayed up before.
