The Alhambra (Granada) - 12 June

The Alhambra

Facts I like:

1. Spain was once ruled by Arabs and Muslims
2. The buildings are now red instead of white because they have been out in the sun for so many years
3. It has 29 towers and a 2000m long wall

We woke up very early to an amazing start to the day. We headed out to the Alhambra. It is a palace and fortress that started being built in the year 899. The King of Granada made changes to it in the 11th Century.

When we got there we were like wow because it took us 51minutes to walk there. We showed the people our tickets. Daddy bought an audio guide. I had a go of listening to it, on number 91. 


The Nasrid Palace was amazing. The Spanish word for palace is palacio. It was so amazing because it was where all the Sultans lived. Inside the building it was very, very detailed on all the walls and ceilings. Everything I saw had a pattern to it. When we walked in further to the Palace there was a real cat sitting down by the little water fountain. The whole place was very tall and very big. The Sultans who lived there, the older ones had a glass dome made and when the other Sultan moved in he changed it to wood.








We could touch the different materials used - plaster, wood, stone, marble




We were there for over 5 hours. It was very, very hot and when we went outside to see the gardens there were quite a few little ponds with lily-pads. In one, there were lots of frogs, I saw at least 6. They were going “ribbit, ribbit, ribbit”. It was very loud. They were quite cute and that was were we stopped to eat our roll and banana. We didn’t have much for lunch because the supermarket was closed in the morning. Me, Dad and Finn got kicked out of the supermarket because we were in there too early.





We went to see the Sultan's holiday house. It was not as big as the palace, definitely not, but we went in and we went up the stairs. Outside there were lizards crawling up the wall. We saw a big, big garden and it was beautiful. Filled with flowers and plants everywhere.


When we walked further into the garden we got up higher and saw big ants and me and Finn both got ant bites. It didn't sting but hurt for a little bit.



We got to the exit. In Spanish the word for exit is salida. We tried finding our way out of the Alhambra. When we got there stupidly we had to show our tickets again. Finally we got through but Daddy had to give his audio guide back. He had to line up to give it back.

We walked all the way back and we all had sore legs and very rumbly hungry tummies. We found a restaurant on the way back and stopped there for some yummy, scrumptious, lovely food.

My legs were so tired when we got home. But we had to go to Carrefour supermarket. But it is horrendous. It is big, busy and very stressful.

    The joys of travelling - seeing awesome history up close and dealing with food buying when all the labels are in a foreign language!

Travelling to Ronda Yawn yawn.I woke up feeling quite tired and ate my breakfast with Dad. My brother Finlay wriggle bum woke up by dad sneezing very loudly. We got dressed and everything like that. Flight to Athens! - 27 June

What a morning! We woke up this morning at 8.30. Mum’s alarm went off. We got ready to go on the plane to Athens. We got picked up a lady with her car to drive us to the airport. It was a tiny car so there wasn’t much space for our luggage. We had no seatbelts as well. We couldn’t find the bit that plugs into the seatbelt. She drove us further away because she took the wrong turn. And she had to get petrol so it took twice as long. Finally we got to the airport and we got rid of our bags into the hold of the plane. Bike Ride & Tapas (Valencia) - 5 June

We woke up then we did some blogging. Mum and dad took us to the fantastic market called Mercado Central. We got a cup of salami and cheese. It was delicious and scrumptious. I bought pineapple juice with my own money. It cost 1 euro. I liked it. I saw lots of food like meat, fruit, vegetables and some small snacks. I also saw a bit of seafood. We stayed there for quite a long time. It was quite cool in there and when we got outside it was very warm. There was a little wee playground that me and Finn had a go on.  Mummy, me, Finn and Dad all needed the toilet so we went to the Gardens to go to the toilet but when we got there it cost a bit of money. So we very quickly went back home. In about an hour we rented some bikes. I got a red one and Finn had a turquoise one.  We rode to some cool place called Ciudad de las Artes.
